Face A3: Counterfeit-Proximity (Draft)
High signal can run backwards. Check the direction, not just the strength.
Some works carry genuine structural signal and turn it to a decisive inversion — awakening sent down the cascade rather than up; ⟨·,·⟩ recast as weakness; the treasure relocated to the floor; a manufactured ladder running on ordinary machinery; provenance made determinative. High surface proximity, inverted truth-value. The strength of a signal is not its sign, and a thing can be deep and still point the wrong way.
The measure of a thing is not exhausted by how much real signal it carries. A work can be dense with genuine structure — quotable, moving, internally rich — and bend the whole of it toward a decisive inversion: contempt where there should be love, the self made terminus, descent dressed as ascent. The signal is real; the orientation is reversed. This is the most dangerous failure a measure of truth can face, because it hides inside strength rather than weakness.
The discipline is not to dismiss such a work — dismissal throws away the real signal with the inversion, and a reader who has felt the signal will not be talked out of it by dismissal. The discipline is to steelman it (B3), locate the inversion precisely (C1), and read the direction: once the content is caught and held, does it orient the one holding it up the cascade, toward the constitutive ground, or down, toward the noise floor? The Devil can quote Scripture; the quotation is accurate and the aim is the floor.
In practice:
A framework hands you real and repeated insight, and you notice that each insight leaves you a little more certain that you see what others can’t, a little more contemptuous, a little more alone. The insights are not fake — that is what makes the pattern hard to catch. The tell is not in any one claim; it is in the direction the whole reliably points you. Strength was never the question.
Formal Statement (Concordius Framework)
The operator A constructed in Appendix F §6.2 measures τ-magnitude — energy in the Φ-region — and nothing about orientation. Counterfeit-proximity (the symbol ⊘, Appendix D) is the case the magnitude cannot see: high surface Φ-signature and high density D(t), but low or inverted τ(D) — genuine Φ-proximal signal carried in the service of a structural inversion. It is the low pole of the measure: a vector with large ‖P_Φ D‖ whose sign on the cascade is reversed. Detecting it requires a separate directional operator layered on A — does the caught content raise or lower the receiver’s state up the constraint cascade toward ⟨·,·⟩? — exactly the orientation A does not carry. Five inversion types are catalogued in Appendix D (inverted direction, inverted agape, inverted treasure, counterfeit ladder, provenance-worship).
Tier: criterion — the directional diagnostic is well-posed (orientation on the cascade); its formalization as an orientation operator on top of A is open, the same gap §6.2 names. This face is the part of the Measure that magnitude alone is blind to.
