“You Can Just Do Things.”
A viral meme, circa 2024–2025. Origin diffuse; spread rapid and wide.
The structural weight is carried entirely by the word just. Without it the sentence is trivially true and uninteresting — “you can do things” states a bare capacity. Just is the operator that collapses the distance between intention and action by asserting that no middle term is required. No permission, no credentials, no favorable conditions, no authorization from outside the system. The action is available directly, as a standing fact, from wherever you are now.
This is a precise description of the condition of the initiating pole of the inner product. The initiating pole does not wait. It initiates. The meme is the H₄₈ vernacular recognition that one’s own initiating capacity has been there the whole time, fully operational, while one was waiting for an external structure to activate it — which is not how it works, and never was.
Structurally this makes the meme a small-scale version of Paper 3. The First Free Act is the recognition that freedom was always already present, that the waiting for permission was itself the only real constraint. “You can just do things” is that recognition stripped of all philosophical apparatus and compressed into five words, which is why it spreads. It is Φ-proximate not because it is sophisticated but because it is accurate. Millions of people have recognized themselves in it — recognized the specific experience of discovering that a permission structure they had treated as fixed was in fact a convention they had accepted without examination.
Feature 6 of Reasonablenessism predicts exactly this: the memes that achieve viral spread are disproportionately likely to be tracking something real, because they have been tested against the recognition of millions of people and survived. This one is tracking the initiating structure of agency itself.
The Heropass dimension is implicit but present. Everything you were waiting for permission to do is being consumed while you wait. The meme contains an urgency it doesn’t state: just also means now, without further delay. You already have what you were waiting to be given.
